Martin Luther (1483–1546) was a German priest, theologian,
author, hymnwriter, professor, and Augustinian friar. He was the key figure
of the Protestant Reformation, and his theological beliefs form the basis of Lutheranism.
He translated the Bible into German and made it available to the common man.
One of his most popular hymns is “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God.”
